Year of Projects 2026-2027: Week 2

It has been super hot and dry here for the last month. We are keeping our fingers crossed our summer monsoon moisture will start up soon – we really need the rain! I took “advantage” of the heat and stayed inside and did crafting and reading this weekend, so here’s what I worked on:

Jane Austen Anniversary Quilt: I am SO close to having the top finished. I have 2 more of the diamond borders to attach and then one final set of stripes to go around the outside edge and it’ll be done! I will be excited to send this off for quilting and then have it on the guest bedroom bed to enjoy. I love the historic reproduction fabrics used in the design. Hard to believe I’ve been working on it almost a year – it’s been a fun one!

Handspinning: I have one bobbin filled with the first 140-gram gradient pack from Hilltop Cloud Fibres. This bamboo/BFL/merino wool blend spins up like a dream and it’s fun watching the colors change from orange to pink. I have started the second bobbin and hoping I can start plying in another week or so and actually finish this up during the Tour timeframe.

Supernova Quilt: I am still working slowly on the second month’s medallion. This is the “blue” star in the rainbow palette for this quilt. I fussy cut the seaweed/floral fabric so it formed a wreath when stitched, and I have just started working on the final round of blue stars that goes around the outside of this.

Flower Child Top: I cast this on a couple of weeks ago but didn’t get any photos of it until Friday. This is another summer/short-sleeved top, with pattern by Wool & Pine. It’s a top-down lace yoke pullover and I’m using a fingering-weight alpaca/silk/linen blend from my stash for this one. I am about halfway through the yoke increases.

Craggy Shore Socks: I haven’t knit socks in a while but I had a couple of skeins of stash sock yarn wound up and ready to go and I needed an easy project so I cast on for the Craggy Shore socks. These are a simple knit/purl pattern but they look like vertical wavy lines and are entertaining to knit without being challenging. I’m using a skein of Hue Loco Merino Sock for this pair.

That’s all for me this week YOP’ers! Hope yours has been a good one. 🙂

  2. can’t believe you have been working on the quilt for almost a year. It is so pretty. Your Flower Child sweater has a very pretty neck pattern. A very nice color too. Looking forward to seeing those socks as their pattern emerges. Our mobsoons are really trying to get going. Lots of wind and increasing dew point. We want rain too!

    1. It really doesn’t feel that long. I think I started it in September 2025? It’s been so fun to work on. I will hope for rain for you too!

  3. Looking great! The Jane Austen quilt has turned out truly lovely. The fabrics works really well for the design. And I love the start of your Flower Child sweater, too! Looks like a great pick for a lightweight sweater.

    1. Thank you! The fabric is actually reproduction prints licensed by Chawton Cottage for this designer, so it’s a nice historical tie-in. I’m excited to have another summer top to wear too!

  4. The flower power start looks lovely, hope you get some perfect weather to wear it when it’s done. Our torrentially wet summer has dried up for a few days, fingers crossed it’s come to visit you for a little, it’s not rained for 3 days and when we throw the dog ball and it lands on grass a spray of water comes up.

  5. I love the fussy cutting you did to get the wreath. This was a line I wasn’t interested in by TP and seeing how you are using it has me rethinking it a bit.
So close to the end of your Austen quilt! So much work, and looks great.
