Year of Projects 2025-2026: Week 47

Not exactly the relaxing holiday weekend we had planned, since the main drain on the house failed and we wound up spending most of today (Sunday) dealing with that and extra expensive holiday weekend hour emergency plumbing costs. But at least it got fixed so we can run water in the house, so I will take that as a win. I had grand plans of getting my Sparrows quilt completely assembled, but that didn’t happen. Here’s what I did get done this week.

Sparrows: I managed to get the head sections and body sections all assembled. Just the tails are left, and I am hopeful I can get the last 8 blocks completely finished up tomorrow on the Monday holiday.

Lite Bright: Quite a bit of progress on this. I’m using a 3-color fade, and I have started the transition section moving from the brighter pink of the top to the softer, peachy-pink of section two. The compound raglan shaping at the shoulders is done and the whole thing is joined in the round, so I will just knit around and around for a while. (This will eventually fade into a blue with some pink speckles.)

Supernova: Really enjoying this English paper-piecing project but it does take time to do. I have started adding/assembling the rainbow stars around the center medallion and I’m about a third of the way through those.

Finally, A Long Winter’s Nap cross-stitch was out for a bit. I put in several hundred stitches since it came up on my Tiny Decisions app a couple of nights this week. It currently looks like this and I am SO close to the 50% mark!

That’s it for me this week. No progress on the Jane Austen quilt or the Oscar cardigan, but maybe they will get some time in the spotlight this week.

If you’re here in the US, hope you are having a nice Memorial Day weekend.

  1. Super nova is awesome. The colors are exquisite. Love the cute bright too. That one will be fun to watch progress. Glad you got your drain issue fixed. Sorry it happened on a Sunday.

  2. OMG!!! That Supernova is amazing. I had to chuckle at “A Long Winter’s Nap”. I could definitely see that displayed above my hubby’s head while he naps in his chair. 😉 I’m looking forward to seeing how your fade sweater looks. Do the sleeves also fade? I have yet to knit a fade although I’m planning one with the yarn I got from last year’s advent calendar. Guess I’m going to have to estimate stitches so that I can split the yarns between body and sleeves.

    1. Thank you! I am having so much fun with the fabrics in Supernova!

I’m going to do mine with short sleeves, so there will just be the 2 faded colors instead of 3 but if you make the long-sleeved version then yes, it fades down the sleeves too. (The pattern comes with the instructions on how to figure out when to work the transition rows based on the # of colors you’re using.)

  3. I love the name for the Lite Bright sweater. Is that the pattern or the yarn colors? I do love the yarn colors, at least the speckled pink we can see so far. Sounds like it will be a really lovely fade!

    1. It’s the pattern. It’s technically “ultra lite bright” since it’s for sock yarns (I think they also have a regular Lite Bright for DK). Pattern is from Wool & Pine and is another one of their stashbusters.

  4. Ooh, I’m so glad to see that the Greywork fabrics are being used in this Supernova BOM to act as a background. It’s going to make it much more cohesive than so many TP Novas/Supernovas I have seen, which often have no place for the eyes to land. I’ll enjoy watching your progress.

    1. Agree! And I like the contrast with the neutrals against all the other business of the fabrics.

  5. So many awesome projects you’ve got going! Your Supernova is looking wonderful. And the cross stitched Santa is looking great. What a curly beard he has! I’m looking forward to seeing the fading in your Lite Bright sweater.
