Year of Projects 2025-2026: Week 30

Let’s start off this week with a finish, shall we? This is the Mushroom Hat, designed by Lotta Lothgren. I believe it may be available as a standalone pattern now but I have the entire pattern collection, Observations, that it appears in. I used 2 colors of DK-weight merino for mine. I doubled the length of the ribbing so it would be warmer over the ears, but otherwise, knit the middle size as written. This will be added into my next donation box shipment.

This week I finally got back to my Aviary quilt. I got stalled out on this one when my sewing machine died this summer and then I didn’t get it restarted but I’m back at it now. I’m machine appliquéing the motifs and then adding the embroidery details by hand. This is a wool appliqué quilt and there are 11 appliqué blocks (I’ve finished through block 5) plus a couple of smaller pieced filler blocks. Here’s block 5.

And then here are all the blocks I have finished. (This is not the final layout – I just have them together so you can see all of them at once.)

I also worked on my Faded Stripes shawl – I’m just plugging away at that when I need a mostly mindless project.

And no picture, but I have also been working on the left front of my Book Club Cardigan today and I’m about halfway through the front V-neck increase shaping.

Finally, I whipped up a little kid’s blanket quilt top this weekend. This is a very basic pattern (it’s not really even a pattern – just 5” squares sewn together to make the top). I’ve got it basted to the backing and I’m going to try some easy machine quilting to get this one done and also ready for a donation box.

That’s all for me this week YOP’ers! If you’re being impacted by the big winter storm here in the US, stay safe and warm!

  1. The applique blocks are stunning!! That is a great looking hat. How lucky will be the person that gets it. What a very cute quilt top for a child’s blanket. You are almost tempting me to start quilting but I really really do hate sewing.

    1. Thank you! Sewing and quilting kind of are two different things? Sort of? Not that I’m trying to influence you 😜

    1. Thank you! They are very fun to work on so I’m glad I’ve gotten my mojo back to get going on them again.
