I finished up several things this weekend. Sunday a.m. we woke up to rain (which hardly ever happens here and definitely not in November!) and I enjoyed a full hour of knitting with a cup of coffee while I sat and listened to it drum on the roof – heavenly!
First on the finish list is The Autumn Garden, design by The Drawn Thread. I used the called-for 32-count linen but I substituted in hand-dyed cotton floss from Colour and Cotton (and a few other random colors from my stash). I have this pressed and ready to go to the framer’s this weekend.

I also completed month 3 of the Jane Austen Anniversary quilt block of the month. More appliqué for these. Those skinny pointed leaves were a challenge!

I also finished up the first of the Tea Leaves socks pair. These were a fun and not too difficult pattern to follow. I knit mine using Long Dog Yarn Sock in the color Riders of Rohan. I’m going to put this pair on pause while I try to finish up my striped cat socks this week.

For other in-progress things, I pulled out 1 of 2 pieces in a kit a friend sent me last year that are felt appliqué ornaments for the fall. This is (obviously) the pumpkin one, and there is also an acorn one I haven’t started yet. There are a lot of beads still to place on this one plus a flower but I’m going to see if I can also get this one finished this week too before we move on to Christmas decorating.

Speaking of Christmas decorating, since I finished up The Autumn Garden, I pulled out my long-languishing A Long Winter’s Nap and I’m going to work on that through the end of the year and see how far I can get. (There’s still about 35,000 stitches left so no real chance of finishing that in a month but progress of any kind would be better than none.)

I’m trying to take stock of what other projects I have in progress and try to focus on getting some things finished up before year’s end. On the short list are:
- Finishing up the quilting on the Leaf Pile table runner.
- I have 2 matching throw-sized quilts I haven’t shared yet: I have finished the quilt top for 1 of them, and I started piecing the second. I plan to send these out for long-arm quilting when they’re done and then they will head off to my cousin’s little girls.
- Painted Plains, which is a big scarf/stole. I’m kind of bogged down on this one and need to assess if I want to finish it or repurpose the yarn.
- Bloom Shawl: I also plan to pull this out this week and see if I can get it done by the year’s end. It’s a lovely project but for some reason I don’t pick it up much.
- Book Club Cardigan: I have no real deadline on this one, so I will pick it up as I have interest/time.
- A handful of blankets in various stages. A couple I may opt to repurpose yarn on, and one (Geode blanket) I’m still deciding on.
I think that’s it for this week YOP’ers. Happy Thanksgiving to all my US friends!
