Year of Projects 2025-2026: Week 21

I finished up several things this weekend. Sunday a.m. we woke up to rain (which hardly ever happens here and definitely not in November!) and I enjoyed a full hour of knitting with a cup of coffee while I sat and listened to it drum on the roof – heavenly!

First on the finish list is The Autumn Garden, design by The Drawn Thread. I used the called-for 32-count linen but I substituted in hand-dyed cotton floss from Colour and Cotton (and a few other random colors from my stash). I have this pressed and ready to go to the framer’s this weekend.

I also completed month 3 of the Jane Austen Anniversary quilt block of the month. More appliqué for these. Those skinny pointed leaves were a challenge!

I also finished up the first of the Tea Leaves socks pair. These were a fun and not too difficult pattern to follow. I knit mine using Long Dog Yarn Sock in the color Riders of Rohan. I’m going to put this pair on pause while I try to finish up my striped cat socks this week.

For other in-progress things, I pulled out 1 of 2 pieces in a kit a friend sent me last year that are felt appliqué ornaments for the fall. This is (obviously) the pumpkin one, and there is also an acorn one I haven’t started yet. There are a lot of beads still to place on this one plus a flower but I’m going to see if I can also get this one finished this week too before we move on to Christmas decorating.

Speaking of Christmas decorating, since I finished up The Autumn Garden, I pulled out my long-languishing A Long Winter’s Nap and I’m going to work on that through the end of the year and see how far I can get. (There’s still about 35,000 stitches left so no real chance of finishing that in a month but progress of any kind would be better than none.)

I’m trying to take stock of what other projects I have in progress and try to focus on getting some things finished up before year’s end. On the short list are:

  1. Finishing up the quilting on the Leaf Pile table runner.
  2. I have 2 matching throw-sized quilts I haven’t shared yet: I have finished the quilt top for 1 of them, and I started piecing the second. I plan to send these out for long-arm quilting when they’re done and then they will head off to my cousin’s little girls.
  3. Painted Plains, which is a big scarf/stole. I’m kind of bogged down on this one and need to assess if I want to finish it or repurpose the yarn.
  4. Bloom Shawl: I also plan to pull this out this week and see if I can get it done by the year’s end. It’s a lovely project but for some reason I don’t pick it up much.
  5. Book Club Cardigan: I have no real deadline on this one, so I will pick it up as I have interest/time.
  6. A handful of blankets in various stages. A couple I may opt to repurpose yarn on, and one (Geode blanket) I’m still deciding on.

I think that’s it for this week YOP’ers. Happy Thanksgiving to all my US friends!

  1. The Autumn Garden piece is lovely! It will be beautiful framed.

And the Tea Leaves Sock looks great! I’m going to have to add that one to my Rav queue if it’s not already there.

    1. Thank you! Tea Leaves is in a set of 3 by Carlie Perrins. Shes got lots of great patterns. And I’ll probably end up making the other 2 in this trio at some point. All 3 have customizations too

  2. I do prefer handmade ornaments for our Christmas tree. Beads would make them felt ornaments sparkle. Our Autumn Garden stitch piece is beautiful. Love the Tea Leaves sock pattern. I’ve heard of the Book Club Cardigan. I need to look into it again.

  3. The autumn xs is stunning and I love the felted piece you’ve made too, you are all set for having a beautiful autumnal display next year. I haven’t seen your Santa embroidery before so that’s exciting. I worry if I wore patterned socks in shoes that they’d made itchy imprints in my feet, does that happen. I always just knit plain feet parts just in case.

    1. Yes! I am already excited for next fall :). I have never had that happen with patterned socks – even the thicker cabled ones!
