Year of Projects 2025-2026: Week 7

Has it only been a week? It feels like 10 years have passed. If you read my life update section from last time, you’ll know we were planning to put our house on the market. We live in a fairly remote area with limited housing options and we had signed all the paperwork to list our house, having found 1 good option and 1 maybe option to downsize into. But the day we signed the papers, the good option went under contract and the maybe option we decided wasn’t going to work. So… we opted not to move forward with listing our house. We know we will be here likely another 5 years and that’s too long to just settle for someplace that we weren’t thrilled about living in. We will cross that bridge at a later date. (On the upside, I have a really clean house? I’ll take that I guess?)

On to this week’s projects. I have completed the body of Dyad and I am going to add the cabled collar before I move on to the sleeves, I think. It’s a fairly dense cable pattern so I think I’ll probably have to concentrate more on that than mindless sleeves and will be a good pattern to work on in the evenings.

Since I no longer feel the need to have my sewing space cleaned up, I pulled out the pieces of the Aster blouse I was working on and got a bit further on that project. I assembled the body and set in the sleeves. I thought I had bias tape for the neckline but I don’t – and I needed buttons. Both of those are on order and should be here next week-ish. I really love this lawn fabric. It is very light and crisp yet drapey. My husband actually asked if it was lightweight silk!

I also finished the first 2 blocks of the Postcard Cuties for Winter Quilt. This is a lap-sized quilt with a combination of piecing and appliqué and embroidery. There are also some decorative buttons but those will go on after it’s quilted.

And finally this week, I ripped out the light gray I had put into the house trim on my Autumn Garden cross-stitch. It was too light and the white windows didn’t show up well against it, so I took those stitches out and picked a slightly darker light gray, which I’m much happier with.

That’s all from here this week YOP’ers!

  1. The Aster blouse looks great!

House choices like that can be so hard. But at least your house is clean and you don’t have to deal with the stress and anxiety of selling!

    1. Thank you! Yeah… If we were closer to our move back east we could live with less of a match but five years is a long time.

I’ve got River ready to head to you tomorrow!

      1. You’re absolutely right; five years is a long time to live in a house you’re not happy with (especially since you’re currently happy in your house).

Thank you again! I’m looking forward to reading it.

  2. Your blouse looks lovely. The little quilt is going to be so cute with the little snowmen. Is it all winter themed. I suppose the thing about now not listing your house is, you don’t know that there aren’t people out there looking to up-size who may also be hanging on until the right house comes up for them. Does it cost money in the US to list it?

    1. Thank you! I am a sucker for snowmen.

Totally true. We won’t know but we aren’t out anything. The listing doesn’t cost anything until you have a final contract and the sale has gone thru.

  4. Sorry your #1 house fell through. But, you still have a roof over your head and it is really CLEAN lol. I like that postcard quilt. What a cleaver idea. Your Aster blouse is very pretty. It will be great for summer.

  5. Sorry if the house falling through is not what you wanted. Hope you still find your current home happy. I am not looking forward to the day we need to move as our physical capabilities decline. My daughter would love for us to move closer to her but I’m not ready to give up our home in the north yet. What a beautiful variety of crafts you are working on.
