Year of Projects 2025-2026: Week 2

This week was really busy at work. We are a small team of 3 full and 1 part-time person, and one of those full-timers is out on leave enjoying time with her new little one – so that leaves a lot of extra to go around. However, I did get a chance to work on these things:

Tour de Fleece: I finished up all 8 oz of singles so Iโ€™m ready to ply these together. I was thinking Iโ€™d use a skein of a solid darker blue for a colorwork yoke kind of pattern but I remembered I also have 8 oz of a dark midnight blue Polwarth wool roving I could spin up to use with this. I probably wonโ€™t get to that during the Tour but kind of making myself a mental note here to pull that out of stash this year at some point.

Next, I finished getting sleeves and body separated on Asterie and started down the garter stitch body itself. Iโ€™m a bit further along than this and just about ready to start the body shaping. The pattern has a lot of customization options including bust darts (which Iโ€™m not doing) and body shaping (which I am to make it a little less boxy.)

And finally my Sailing School Socks. I had the first one finished and the leg mostly done on the second last week. Iโ€™ve finished the leg, turned the heel, worked the gusset and Iโ€™ve got just a few pattern repeats and the toe decreases to do. I should have these finished up next week!

I have confirmation that some sample knit yarn has shipped so that should also be here this week and I can get started on those 2 projects at some point as well. Theoretically my sewing machine should be fixed and ready for pickup next weekend so fingers crossed for that!

Have a great week YOPโ€™ers!

  3. Both of your projects look great. Interesting that the body of your sweater is garter instead of the usual stockinette. The sock pattern looks great.

    1. I donโ€™t love working garter stitch in the round but I do like how it looks when itโ€™s done. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  4. Great progress! Your sweater is so so pretty. The color is warm and welcoming. The pattern on the socks shows quite well. Like that colorway too.

    1. Thank you for both of those kind comments. I wasn’t 100% sure if the pattern would work with that yarn but it doesn’t seem to distract from it too much.

  5. That sweater is so pretty! I like that the body is made of garter where normally we see stockinette.
Your singles are lovely. I am in awe of the consistency in your spinning, something Iโ€™m still working on.

    1. Thank you! I like the look of the garter stitch (not sure I love working it in the round, but that’s a different story.)

Lots of time spinning helps with the consistency but it’s taken me a while to get there ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Such pretty shades on the singles next to each other. Sounds like adding in that darker colour in future will give you a set of yarn perfect for a project. Good to see the jumper on a tailorโ€™s dummy to see the yoke. It looks great.

    1. I am really happy with how the singles worked up. I might also see if I’ve got something in a gray – that could work with these now that I’ve seen them plied together. Yes! The fit on the sweater is just right!

  7. Great progress all round, I’m particularly interested to see how the darker midnight blue spins up and goes with this blue you’ve spun. Asterie is coming along nicely and I love that it has so many modification options that you can use. Those sailing socks are just darling, I really do like the texture and variegated yarn combination you’ve used.

    1. Thank you! I’m interested too ๐Ÿ˜‰ But also thinking a dark charcoal gray would work as well. Thank you for your kind comments! I’m really enjoying working on all of these things right now ๐Ÿ™‚
