Year of Projects 2025-2026 Plans

Year 15 (!) of the Year of Projects runs from July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. Each Sunday I’ll have a post to talk about what I’ve been working on with craft projects for the week and what my plans are for the following 7 days. One thing I have learned in my time off from blogging is that, while I love to plan, I also can’t really get out ahead of myself. Some days my RA lets me work on tiny needles or tackle things that need a bit more hand strength and other days, I need something easy on bigger needles. (And some days I just have to read a book.) With that in mind, these are very loose plans, and I likely will replace some things as I go along. In general, I am still working through my stash, trying to have more out than in.

Knitting/Crocheting: I’m focusing on getting some larger WIPs worked down right now with a few new projects thrown in to keep things fresh. Right now on the needles, I have:
1. Asterie Sweater
2. Painted Plains Wrap
3. Sailing School Socks
4. Bloom Your Heart Out Shawl
5. Earth, Wind & Fire Shawl
6. Geode Blanket
7. Birlinn Blanket (in sockweight yarn)
8. Mini Bean Stitch Blanket

These will be my priorities to finish up, and beyond that, I will just keep working on decreasing yarn stash. I’ll probably have a couple of sample or test knits to work on for the fall so you’ll see those as well.

Spinning: Tour de Fleece starts July 5th and runs through my birthday on July 27th, and I’ll be participating in that in the short-term. I have to limit my spinning time to 30-minute segments, so I know I’ll have less to show at the end of the Tour than I have in previous years but I am committed to working down the fiber stash over the next 2-3 years. It takes up a lot of space! If I can spin 4 oz a month as an average, that would go a long way towards working down the fiber.

Sewing/Cross-Stitch: I have been working on a machine applique quilt but my machine has gotten cranky and it is currently in the shop for (hopefully!) a fix and will be back home in mid-July. I have also had to limit my hand-stitching time but I have a few smaller projects I’d like to try to tackle this year. On my YOP planning list are:
1. Aviary Quilt (started and about 35% finished)
2. Winter Quilt (not started but I have supplies)
3. Autumn Garden Cross-Stitch
4. Holiday full-coverage Cross-Stitch (this is a bigger project and probably not one I can finish this year but I’d like to get back to it and make some progress on it).

I also have a couple of garments I’d like to get sewn this year, once I get my machine back and operational.

I think that’s all I’ll commit to at this moment. I have been doing a pretty good job of whittling down my WIPs (down from 15 to 8 since January, including a blanket and a few larger garments). Looking forward to catching up and seeing what everyone has been up to!

  3. Glad to see you back! I’m going to be trying to participate in the Tour de Fleece this year too, though my spinning time will be limited because I haven’t yet learned how to have good posture while spinning, and so my back hurts if I do too much. Maybe this will be the year I figure it out…

    1. Thank you – glad to be back! I can understand this. I donโ€™t always have the greatest posture when I sit and spin and then I wonder why Iโ€™m all creaks and crunches when I do finally stand or sit up straight! Looking forward to seeing what you work on ๐Ÿ˜Š

Always nice to see a fellow sewist in the group. Lovely plans and I cannot wait to see what you can accomplish this year.

  6. Looks like a lovely list of projects. I notice you always spin quite finely, have you thought of spinning a bit thicker to help you get through your stash quicker or do you prefer having a thinner yarns to knit with?

    1. I do tend to spin finer yarns, mostly because that’s what I like to knit but I do have a bin earmarked for worsted weight this year for hats and some other things. I just happened to pull this combo-spin out first. But that is a great suggestion!

  10. I can so relate with the painful hands. I have something similar and it’s a challenge. We just have to get more creative. I switch up crafts depending on what hurts. I hope we all have a great year.

    1. It IS a challenge. I try to do the same and I try not to do any one craft for hours on end as I find that can make it worse. But at least I can still do the things!
