I finished up the second of the Dyad samples I was making for designer Kate Oates.

The base design is a worsted weight, surplice-front jacket with long sleeves. It is worked mostly in stockinette with the reverse side showing, and several slip-stitch “seams” at the sides, center back and along the raglan shaping. The jacket is knit top-down in one piece and the sleeves are knit in the round. There is some seaming up of the collar and the underarms where you join the sleeves to the body but it’s pretty minimal.

As with most of Kate’s patterns, this one has several different options to choose from to customize. For the black version, I knit the longer low hip/mid-thigh length and added the colorwork collar.

For the green one I finished back in September, I knit the shorter length (which styles more like a bomber jacket) and knit the cabled collar.

Since these were samples, I made no adjustments to the pattern and knit everything as written for suggested lengths. The green version is the size 2 and the black version is size 3. Both are shown on my size 36” bust circumference mannequin.

The knitting on the body and sleeves is pretty easy. There’s a bit of fiddly-ness setting up the raglan shaping but stitch markers help a lot there. I would rate the difficulty on the cable collar moderate, but since the colorwork is 3 colors and is worked back and forth, I’d rate the difficulty for the colorwork collar option as slightly more difficult (but completely do-able with a bit of care and patience).

I think the green one is my favorite. I like the standup chunky cabled collar detail best. (And to be honest, knitting an all-black sweater as we lost daylight hours was not the best plan. It’s tough on the eyes!)
