Year of Projects 2025-2026: Week 10

Several finished things this week! First, my Aster blouse is finally done. This is a Colette pattern (no longer in business) and I used the short flutter sleeve option. The fabric is a cotton lawn from Kokka Fabrics. They have lots of interesting Japanese fabrics and this one is very lightweight and drapey. I probably will only get a few more weeks of wear out of this for this season but I really love it. Shown here with some loose linen pants I’ve got a few more work-friendly options as well to style it with.

Next up, I also finished my Asterie sweater, design from Moonstruck Knits. I knit mine with about 5 inches of positive ease and I added a bit of length to the sleeves like I usually do but otherwise no modifications. The yarn is my new favorite, a nonsuperwash merino from Woolberry Fiber Co in the colorway Burgundy. The nonSW fibers take the dye a bit less intensely and with a very subtle variation. It is soft and cozy but very wearable. I styled it here with the skirt I had in mind for it but I think it’ll also be great with black or denim. I LOVE the texture on the yoke!

I also completed the top of my Birds and Bees quilt. It’ll head off to the longarm quilter in the next week or so. That will be a new experience for me since I’ve hand quilted all the other quilt tops I’ve made in the past. It’ll then come back to me for the binding to be added.

I finished the appliqué on the Jane Austen quilt center block. I really enjoyed this new-to-me appliqué technique from Lori Holt (who also designed the quilt). I also am glad this one is a block of the month – it’s big and has a lot of steps but I don’t feel overwhelmed by it (yet?). The next block supplies should arrive in the next week or so.

Finally, I pulled yarns for my next knitting project (while I continue to slog along on sleeves of the Dyad sample knit). My husband went to Patagonia in May and while he was there, he traded a cowl I had made for him for a little wool mouse he thought I’d like. So this will be the replacement Compass cowl for that one. Slightly different yarn colors (these are all from The Farmer’s Daughter) but similar to what he had before. If I remember correctly this is a fairly quick knit so I should be able to get it done before the cold weather here.

That’s it for me this week!

  1. All of your projects are wonderful! Your Aster blouse is pretty and looks so comfortable. And your Asterie is gorgeous. The yoke is amazing. Your Birds and Bees quilt, and the Jane Austen square are great! Looking forward to seeing the binding you put on the B&B quilt.

    1. Thank you for all the kind comments! I am going to be anxiously waiting for a cold snap so I can wear Asterie.

I think I’m going to go with a black and white print for the binding but we’ll see what we decide on for quilting thread color as that might change my mind.

  3. I love all your FOs & WIPs! The Asterie sweater is stunning, and would indeed look great with black or denim also. It would also look great with the linen pants from the first FO pic, though the warmth difference in the pieces would probably be a bit off. 😉

I’ve been bookmarking your sewing sites & notes for next year. (Colette Patterns might not be in business anymore, but it looks like Seamwork has some or all of the patterns there instead.) I’m in the process of slimming down a bit currently and hope to work on expanding my homemade wardrobe pieces once I’ve reached a size I like better. Hopefully next spring or so!

  4. The blouse is so pretty, love that print and pattern combo. Your jumper looks lovely too. I usually match body length and sleeve length so for a minute I thought you had crazy long arms, then realised it’s just more cropped than I’ve made. 😂.

    1. Thank you! I do actually have long arms and I like my sleeves down over my thumb joint usually so actually yes – crazy long!
